30 Mar – 1 Apr 2021 | Tour Coordinator
During the conference, a series of architecture and urbanism related educational tours will be organised to introduce to participants to noteworthy highlights from the host city. These tours will be organised via Zoom and streamed live from roaming locations in Hong Kong.
Day 1 Tour: Central
The areas of Central & Sheung Wan in Hong Kong tell the story of the city’s hundred year development into a vibrant international city. While the collection of skyscrapers are witness to its commercial growth in the 70s and 80s, in recent years a number of adaptive reuse projects have revitalized colonial architecture into contemporary cultural landmarks. In this tour, we will introduce the development of Hong Kong through recent decades, evident in major high-rise projects and newly transformed streetscapes. Key tour projects include: Tai Kwun by Herzog & de Meuron, PMQ, the former Police Married Quarters, The Central escalator system, Asia Society Hong Kong Center by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects
Student Contributors:
LIU Yibing, Kush SETHIA, WAN Weiqi, XING Jiao and ZHANG Zhixing Jason
Day 2 Tour: WKCD
The West Kowloon area is currently the largest urban development in Hong Kong, with the 43ha waterfront West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD), the High Speed Rail station, and the ICC mixed-use development. In this tour, we will walk through the WKCD park, visit its latest developments, and talk with the designers behind these projects on digital applications in the design and construction processes. Key tour projects include: M+ Museum by Herzog & de Meuron, Xiqu Centre by Revery Architects, Lyric Theatre Complex by UNStudio, WKCD Arts Park by West 8, Freespace, M+ Pavilion
